(The hilarity of this will differ depending on your sense of humor, BE WARNED!)
Simon and I just got back to our apartment from vacation a couple of hours ago and the first thing I want to tell the Internet about my trip was this great idea I think I had… but had too late.
So, really, it’s a bittersweet story.
Simon and I went on a 7am-5pm kayaking trip the other day. Everyone is tired and groggy in the morning and as you walk onto the skinny ramp to board the kayaking tour boat, a random guy surprises you by popping out and taking a souvenir picture of you with his giant fancy camera.
Then, when you arrive back at the pier and leave the boat, you have the option of buying a commemorative plate with your ugly mug on it. The plates were cheap, but we just sort of laughed at how tacky the plates were and how horribly everyone’s photos turned out, then left to board our transfer taxi back to our room.
That’s when it hit me. Not only should I have bought my and Simon’s plates, but I should have stuck around and bought all the leftover plates from our tour group too!
The thought of serving a piece of birthday cake on a seemingly regular small plate, and the eater of said cake slowly realizing there is a picture of an old German woman or a pair of young disinterested German boys (there were many Germans on the tour boat)… To me, that’s hilarious.
Here’s one possible scenario in which having these plates would provide me with more I-can’t-stop-laughing-because-it’s-soooo-funny moment:
Littlest Sister Olivia (aged 11): “UMMMMM, why is there a tall skinny man making a weird face on my plate??”
Me (proudly): “Ohhhhh, him? That’s the German guy that yacked his guts up because he got seasick. Simon and I always wanted to remember him so we bought that plate.”
Littlest Sister Olivia: *confused mad face, sudden aversion to cake (but only momentarily)*
Ah well, next time!
